My students have worked extremely hard to earn the opportunity to take a class in our recording studio. Some of them do not excel in their other classes, but they are model citizens in school. Our school population is largely minority, and made up of students who come from all over New York. Our school has managed to earn an A from the city of New York because of our competitive graduation rates and standardized test scores. Eighty-seven percent of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch, and few have seen the inside of a recording studio before they arrive. Many of our students enter school with sub-par skills, but we work hard to provide cross-curricular opportunities for them to improve. Our recording studio is a perfect example of such an opportunity.
