Our students are 3rd-6th graders, they love projects, especially when then are hands-on. You should hear the response when I say we are doing a science experiment or inquiry project - their eyes light up! Our school, being somewhat small, has the feel of a large family. The older ones are helpful with the younger students and it has a team atmosphere.
