The high school I teach in is a melting pot for different ethnicities, economic backgrounds, family structure, and languages. Despite all of the differences though, one thing that brings all of the students together is hands-on activities. Over the years, the library role as changed. Even though it is still the "hub" and the "heat beat" of the school, the focus has become less on books and more on the media and technology aspect. The teachers and administrators in this school are trying desperately to instill a culture of becoming college and career ready, and the goal of this library is no different. Through the addition of Maker Spaces and more technology, I feel that this library will be able to continue being a place where students want to be.
