My classroom is comprised of twenty-eight students of varying abilities and differing interests. Some children have limited English speaking skills; others are reading far above grade level. Some students are very privileged in their home lives while some wonder where their next meal will come from. Our school has a high poverty rate, with well over half of all students receiving free lunch. Yet, despite all these differences and challenges facing myself and the students each day, our small school has a friendly feel; everybody knows everybody and the students feel safe and welcomed each day. The staff enjoys coming to school to enhance the lives of these young students.
