My students love to ask questions and explore topics in science. Every day, I field questions from my students about a variety of subjects that inspire and interest them. We really enjoy these classroom discussions, but some days students just need to be able to grab a reference book to explore a topic in more depth. One of the most exciting things to watch is when students are captured by an idea and can't wait to share it with others. It can be something as simple as the anatomy of a mosquito, or something as complicated as the effects of radiation on the ecosystem around Chernobyl. It doesn't matter ... these kids love to talk about science and make connections with their own lives. I would like our library to include reference books that students can use to investigate concepts, two magazine subscriptions that center around science, as well as some graphic novels to clarify some science topics that we have already explored in class.
