Elementary students, just like adults, work better when they are comfortable. I have noticed over the years that some students seem to thrive working at their desks and others do best sitting on the floor right in front of me. Still others are very engaged laying down in our classroom library with a clipboard or standing while working. After doing some research, I came across the idea of flexible seating and read about its benefits with students of all age levels. My hope this coming school year is to incorporate flexible seating in my classroom so that each student is able to choose a working environment that meets their needs. Flexible seating will also greatly benefit those students who need more movement within our classroom.
