My students are all ninth graders. They are fun and silly and enjoy coming to class. Unfortunately my school is limited in its resources and can only provide one class set of novels for my three classes to share. All year long we have been reading speeches, essays and short stories. Finally, we have gotten to the point in our school year where I can share the joy of reading a novel with my students. Many of them are not big readers and not the greatest readers, but with the write story all students can grow to love reading. I'm hoping that reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" will help lead students down a path of a life-long love for reading. I feel that providing each student with a book they can call their own is a step in the right direction.
