The Sphero SPRK educational robot allows students to remotely control the sphere robot using an iPad or the student can pre-program the robot to follow a path using the iPad. One activity that I will integrate into my classroom using this programmable robot is to have students carefully measure and mark a maze on the floor using a ruler or yardstick and masking tape. They will then use our classroom iPad to program the robot to stay inside the maze. Afterwards they will run their program and see how close they come to completing the maze without crossing the tape lines, students can then write a paragraph on their coding experience. Coding is something that our students will need to be able to do and this is an awesome way to introduce them to this skill. This is only one of hundreds of possible activities that we can integrate into our classroom using this device. The Bloxels Video Game Builder Starter Kit allows students to create and design video games by using a Bloxels gameboard and blocks. Students will design their room by strategically placing each block on the gameboard. When their room is completed they will then design their game character. The students will then capture their creations using the classroom iPad and then be able to interact with their room and character using the iPad. All of their predesigned activities are scalable in complexity, so it’s appropriate for all grade levels. Plus, it encourages collaboration so students can build and play games together and then write about their design. Google Cardboard will allow my students to experience virtual reality in a simple, fun, and affordable way.
