I teach studio art at an inner-city New York state public high school whose educational focus is on science and the environment. The school is located in a high-needs community, with the majority of our students (80%) qualifying for free lunch. Our student body is almost entirely minority status. The goal of our school is to prepare our population for careers in the sciences and to foster environmental awareness and environmentalism. The studio art classes are mixed grades ranging from 9-12.
