I am requesting three Kindle Fires and cases (because little people--they sometimes drop stuff). The students would use these during Literacy and Math station time. They would be able to have access to technology that they may not have outside of school. Also, our public library offers a great service where anyone can check out eBooks through their Kindle. I would love to have a reading station where my students can read these books and understand the importance of the public library in our community. Since we are an inquiry based school we do a lot of large scale projects which require research. Currently we all share my "teacher computer" or we go to the computer lab. I would love to have the Kindles for students to research in groups. My students live in a world where they can use an iPad or SmartPhone before they can ride a bike or write their name and that should be represented in the classroom where they spend eight hours a day. I am teaching the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers. I want to make sure they are provided with all the tools to do so.
