In our society today children are required to coexist with different nationalities and people who may be different from them. It is beneficial to teach our students the importance of tolerance and acceptance of others. In my class I would like to have an iPad that my student can use in a listening center. In this listening center, my students would be able to access digital e-books, such as “OK to Be Different”, “Freckle Face Strawberry”, and “Giraffes Can’t Dance”. These books teach tolerance and acceptance through kid friendly stories that my students can relate to. They would also be able to access apps such as The Social Express II and My DPS (Digital Problem Solver). These apps teach proper emotions and problem solving techniques, as well as coping strategies for different social situations. These lessons will further instill tolerance and acceptance in our classroom family. Once they have participated in the listening center, we would come back to the carpet for classroom meetings to discuss what we learned and how we feel. During this time I would teach the importance of tolerance and acceptance and give examples and scenarios using the classroom easel. This easel is mobile so that we can easily change the location of our meetings within the classroom. The students can also come up to the easel and share their own ideas and teach the class what they have learned. Our board space in our classroom is very limited.
