My ESL (English as a Second Language) Classroom is located in a school that serves the most economically challenged neighborhood in our state! My students include refugees, recent immigrants and US born non-native speakers Grades 1-3. All of them are categorized at poverty level. The challenges they face are immense but their determination to succeed here in the US far surpasses their limitations. What they need is help and resources to get them there. Because of their Non-English speaking status, my students face the dual challenge of keeping up with their peers In a rigorous academic environment while simultaneously acquiring a brand new language. Research shows that language development is accelerated when students have multi-modal learning opportunities throughout their day. This means hearing, listening, seeing and doing. Having technology such as a Learning Center in my room would help me to better help these amazing children succeed!
