Giving my students Scholastic Magazines would help meet common core standards as well as provide additional resources in subject areas of Social Studies, English Language Arts, Science, and Math. Scholastic News uses current event articles and informational texts that capture my students' attention. Students also have opportunities to write expository, persuasive, and informational essays. There are also games that can be played to review topics. Sometimes it can be very challenging to find updated text. Children now are used to instant information because they are used to using the internet as a reference. I've found that Scholastic News Magazines' articles tend to be relevant to current events.
