Our school is in a high poverty area and the population of students is very transient. My students are energetic, caring, funny, and many have special needs. Their special needs range from needing help with reading and writing, to emotional or behavioral support. Music is something that brings us all together and all of my students can participate in. They get so excited when I bring my bags of percussion instruments into their classroom to use for music class. As we are learning about the instrument families I have been blessed with receiving some percussion instruments from fellow music teachers. But when it comes to wind instruments, my students have trouble grasping the concept. Having the recorders in the classroom would be huge for my students.
