Our classroom consists of 20 awesome boys and girls who represent an amazing rainbow of culture. Each student brings great diversity to the classroom that helps enrich all of our lives. The diversity makes for interesting classroom management as students enter with wide gaps in what is acceptable behavior. My students arrive at school with very little or zero school experience. Their brains are like blank canvases just waiting to be painted with all kinds of colorful learning experiences. Many students have multiple children in their family that also attend our school. Our school is in an area of high poverty. We serve students from 4 years old to 6th grade. All students at our school receive free lunch and breakfast. A high majority of our students are from single parent homes or living with grandparents or foster parents. The school building is over 100 years old. We wish our classroom was larger but we make it work to provide the best learning opportunities.
