Student interest and enthusiasm in Science and the STEM lab continues to grow. The students love learning about electricity and electrical components. The students increasingly want to build and construct on their own using the knowledge they have learned in the classroom. The students will use the coin cells (watch battery), toothbrushes, vibrating pager motors and wire to construct a Bristlebot. This is an electrically powered robot built on the top of a toothbrush head. This activity will support our electricity unit which requires students to learn to build circuits. This project will take the students through the engineering design process which is a key part of our STEM activities. The students are learning to build more complex circuits on breadboards. The wire and capacitors will be a key part of this experience. The students have discussed the job of a capacitor and now they will have the opportunity to do hands-on activities using them to build circuits that include flashing lights or buzzers. This will be a very exciting and educational experience for the students. My students are seeing a whole new world of learning and opportunity open up for them. They are beginning to love science and the engineering process. These supplies will help to keep that fire burning!
