I teach a 6:1:1 self contained first grade class. All of my students are diagnosed with Autism and are met with a variety of challenges on a daily basis. We are a brand new school that just opened last year. Teachers are responsible for supplying their own classroom with materials which is very difficult when walking into a totally bare classroom. My school is made up of 48% ESL students. Five out the six kids in my class come from Spanish speaking homes. When they are home they are not provided with the continuous support they need. They require a lot of sensory input and manipulatives in order for them to achieve their greatest potential. I want to help my students reach all of their goals and having the proper materials is the first step.
