Multi-sensory approach is a very successful teaching style for young learners. Creating experiences help strengthen foundational and functional skills. I like to add scent and texture when appropriate to help foster these experiences. This past school year, I received a student who introduced me to a whole new sensory approach than what I was used to. This student needed me to create an experience with the use of flashlight and light boxes. One of my co-workers created a small one for us to use. The joy from my student began to light up the room as he explored this new experience. This light was contagious. Other students wanted to have a chance but the box was too small. By add a larger light box to my classroom, my students learning will be enhanced and much more memorable. I look forward to see their eyes light up as the room lights go off and the learning starts.
