My students are 4th-6th graders that all have special needs. Their qualifying disabilities vary form specific learning disabilities to autism, but about half have been diagnosed with ADHD. Nearly 83% percent of my students come from low socioeconomic households, one of whom is in foster care. Nearly all are two years below grade level in all subjects. My students are eager to learn and have the capacity of doing more. Most of them simply lack self confidence and need more opportunities to be successful. A number of them have athletic ability and some feel that the only thing they are good at is sports. I want to build on that confidence and bring it into the classroom as well. They are great kids who want to please others and sports helps level the playing field for many of them.
