My school is in a middle class area with little diversity. My goal has been to increase the number of girls and minorities in the Physics classroom. My AP and regular Physics classes are now about half girls. I have also increased the amount of minorities in my class (well as much as I can in our area). My students want to know how and why things work. They are constantly asking questions and applying it to a scenario or a movie (the latest, "Interstellar"). They want to know how to build and create things better and more efficiently. They care about the science and the future environment. I have seen their math scores improve as they learn how to apply the math to a problem. They are making connections between why they do Calculus to the process of it. My students are thinkers and doers. They want to go to college and major in some type of science or engineering. My job is to get them there.
