I currently teach a new program called CORE Math. It consists of students who are currently scoring at Basic or Below Basic on the Missouri End-of-Course exam and/or have previously or are currently failing their regular math course (ie. Algebra 1 or Geometry). My students are dual enrolled in a regular Math class and the CORE Math class, so 2 block per day they are in a Math environment. The goal of CORE Math is to raise their basic math skills so that they can become more confident and score at Proficient or Advanced on their next End-of-Course exam. The class size for CORE Math is capped at 15 to improved success.
I am a firm believer that when students can track their own progress, they have a vested interest in their learning. One of the ways that we help students track their own progress is through a district purchased program called STAR Math. STAR Math is a program that tests the students on their basic skills and then reports the results back to the students and the teacher.
