While my students may be eager to learn, many are missing the basics to get them started, such as a calculator. Students will beg to borrow a calculator because they don't own one. My students are a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and from many different countries. Some speak only limited English. Math is a class that they can be successful in despite the language barrier but they need a calculator.
