My class is made up of a diverse group of learners in an intercity school in which over half of the student population receives free and reduced lunch. More than half of my students come from families where English is a second language. Although the language may be a hurdle to their everyday learning, my students are an inquisitive, ambitious, courageous, energetic, and hard working group of children. However, more than half of my students are below grade level in reading in the areas of fluency and comprehension. With such a deficiency in reading, the majority of my students struggle in all academic areas. Yet, with the help of a MacBook Air, I will be able to integrate technology with a multi-sensory rich learning environment to help promote and support language development, fluency, and comprehension. I have seen how much my students have grown with the help of smart boards, iPads, and computers and am eager to watch them blossom even further with the help of a MacBook Air.
