My CheMasters are hard at work and ready to take on another project! I am the chemistry teacher at a charter high school in Illinois. My students come from a low-income community and are thus products of the achievement gap. However, my students have made huge strides this year, defying the pattern of the education served to them in the past. We constantly track our "CheMastery levels," (wordplay on "chemistry" and "mastery") to show our growth. We started the year with 66% CheMastery. This past unit marked their highest CheMastery yet, with 79%. My kids face tough odds, but they will prove them wrong, as they are truly CheMasters.
