In first grade, we lay the ground work for many of those math skills we use in everyday life. My students come from families living in poverty, where they may not get the opportunity to play Chutes and Ladders with their parents. Or play an educational game on an iPad. The families I work with cannot make education a number 1 priority when they have to worry about how they are going to feed their families or keep them warm in our cold winters. So my job is to fill in those missing pieces, in addition to teaching them the curriculum.

About my class
