Communication and language are the keys to success in today’s society. Everywhere one goes in life they will need to effectively express themselves verbally as well as in written form. In speech and language therapy students work on specific goals that were individually chosen for them in order to assist them in their classroom settings. We work together to explore various strategies for learning to be better communicators. Some examples of what we work on are reading comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills, memory and attention strategies, writing with appropriate grammar, sequencing, and organization, and learning to verbally express ourselves clearly and effectively. My students are hard workers. They have to work even harder than their peers due to their deficits. But that surely does not stop them. They are happy and eager to better themselves. Our school is a MS and HS with a strong community culture. We provide a supportive environment for students.
