I am very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to have these children in my life. I have been a teacher for several years and can easily say that the students I teach this year are the most compassionate and needy children I have ever taught. The school in which I work is in the heart of Chicago. Many of the children come from hard working immigrant families. All of the children qualify for free federal lunches which means that even though their parents are employed they still make less than the national average. The students in my classroom are eager to learn and have proven that by the daily attendance rate. During the past three months my students have been present in class 99.2%. This is proof to me that not only the families but also the children are serious about education. The majority of the students did not learn English as their first language. Many of the students still struggle between the Spanish and English Language.
