Over the past few years I have worked on creating an enjoyable reading space for my students. I have always felt that sitting in rows of desks do not foster a love of reading-it becomes a chore, as opposed to an enjoyable activity. As a magnet school, we are focused on student’s multiple intelligences and inquiry based learning-with a focus on creativity as a key to success. As teachers, we need to promote and teach this in our classrooms to truly prepare students for the future. The benefits of chairs/carpet: • Bean bag chairs are durable • They are lightweight and can easily be moved around by students to form individual, paired, or group reading • They cradle the body, so it is both comfortable for children and promotes calmness • The carpet will provide a soft space for students to sit if other students have occupied the chairs
