I have an AMAZING group of 27 diverse learners in my classroom this year. Some which speak very little English whom are refugees from Africa and other areas of the Middle East (this is typical at our school every year). Other students in my class have recently moved out of motels & into government housing (also typical), and four other students with serious special needs that will greatly benefit from having activities & resources that will support them in accessing our literacy academic content through various domains. Because most of my students come from backgrounds in which there has been little to no exposure to literacy, let alone access to books; newer resources & materials are essential in supporting them & their progress they can & will make this year. These resources will not only increase engagement, but also increase our student’s confidence & success; ultimately, leading them to be effective and productive members as well as positive role models in their community.
