The high school where I teach is located in the south side of a large metropolitan area. The size is classified as one of the largest of the state and continues to grow every year. The population of the school is made up of 86% Hispanic, 16% black, and only 6% white. The percentage of students on free or reduced price lunch is 94%. The young ladies on the softball team view it as almost a second family. They work well together and support each other through all of the ups and downs that come with living in this community.
