These two items will make the world of a difference in the lives of my students. Part of our 4th grade curriculum is to study the United States of America. We focus on what makes America so beautiful to visit, and wonderful to live in. My students love learning about their country and visiting places through Google Earth, however, the way they are assessed does not match the way they are learning in the classroom. I want to use these materials to makes Social Studies learning and assessments accessible to all of my students. Using a green screen will make it possible for my students to place themselves in front of famous landmarks or landforms and report on them for their classmates. This adds another level of excitement for learning not only Social Studies, but how the technology behind it all works. The technology club I created at my school is geared towards 5th graders. I have already planned out everything the 5th grade students will do with this screen and iPad. Using the iPad, students will work in groups of 3 to record each other throughout the building or using the green screen, add voice-overs, background music, and piece together video clips to make their own videos. Giving 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to use an iPad to record themselves, edit videos, and use the green screen to place them in an important place in our country, or our countries history is hands-on learning at its finest. I cannot wait to see how excited my students will be to keep learning.
