My students are very energetic learners. The school they attend is located in an impoverished inner-city zone. Their learning experiences are limited somewhat, so I feel responsible to expose them to as much as I can in a year of learning. Many of my students are living with a grandparent. I have always felt supported by my parents and feel like they want the best for their children. We have an extended school year to combat the loss of learning that occurs over a long summer break. Scheduled intersessions are built into the school year to help remediate our students' gaps. Our school culture is very positive, with high expectations for all learners. We work very hard to support our students. We do not have an established PTA, so there are no funds to support our classroom ventures. School funds tend to cover the basics.
