Clippert is a middle school in a large urban district. Our students are from poor families--100% of our students qualify for free lunch. Our student body consists of 96% Hispanic students and 3% African American students. Clippert's students overcome many obstacles to attend school each day such as poverty, lack of transportation, and crime; yet nearly 90% of our students attend school on a regular basis. Our students come from large families with strong family and community ties. Our families work hard but make little money. Many of our student's parents have had a limited education as education outside of the United States is both expensive and limited in availability; yet education is extremely important to our school's families. Supplies in our poor, urban district are extremely limited. With out grant funding, we simply do not have the funds to supply our students with the resources that they need to engage in complex learning experiences.
