All of my scholars range from fifth graders to eighth graders. They are a very energetic and hard working group of kids. A lot of the scholars that I service come from low income, high poverty families. However, they don't let this deter their academic goals. Last year alone, over 75% of the school passed the statewide standardized test. This is a big feat for a new charter school whose population is predominately African American. The school setting is also an important factor in raising academically capable young ladies. We have a no nonsense school setting where we believe in sweating the small stuff. While some may look at this as being very meticulous, we are trying to teach our scholars at a young age about integrity and the real world. A number of my scholars are striving to be the first person in their families to graduate from college. I'm trying to teach them that this can happen no matter the disability. As long as they have drive and a solid work ethic, they will succeed.
