These books will be our mentor texts for our literacy and writing. These are the books that we will look at and study more closely to look at author's craft and writing strategies. We learn about how writers use figurative language, how they introduce their writing, how they include sensory details and so much more! Our mentor texts should represent the students that are in our school. We talk about the diversity that we see missing in our books and this gives them the opportunity to see more diverse characters. By having more diverse mentor texts, my students feel more connected to the stories.
