My students are passionate readers and wonderful human beings, climbing the mountain to and through college. That climb is steep: over 80% are in their first year in an English immersion class, and many face food or housing insecurity. Most arrived in August two years behind in reading. Despite obstacles, my students arrive each day committed to growth. They devour and share great books with one another, and literally stand and cheer when I announce new arrivals to the class library.
