The Monarch butterfly population is declining; this concern has motivated our class to do something about it. One of our main goals is to do our part to help the butterflies have a safe place to feed, resupply, and head on their migration journey from our classroom to their next destination. Learning about life cycles has sparked our interest in nature. The butterfly migration station and the ant farm will help incorporate project-based learning to our class. Using these tools, our goal is to help our environment and learn about life cycles, animal adaptations, plant life and to incorporate scientific activities. Children at this age need a concrete perspective and a visual aid to help bridge the gap between non-abstract and abstract thinking. These projects will help provide developmentally appropriate practices through visual and physical aids.
