I am an elementary school teacher. I have been teaching at the same school for 10 years. The population of students in my school are poverty stricken children whose parents are just barely making ends meet. I have been fortunate enough to work with an administration and a group of colleagues that always puts kids needs first. We all go beyond the call of duty for "our kids". We volunteer extra time, use out of pocket money to buy basic supplies, sometimes we even buy the especially needy students clothing. However with the current economic crisis our country is going through, and the ever increasing budget cuts our school has endured, it is impossible for our school to purchase new equipment for our classroom. Core curriculum materials have to be bought first. For a while, even that seemed an impossibility.
