I teach at a title 1 school in a rural community. Over seventy percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. There are 21 fourth graders in my class. They are extremely diverse culturally, socioeconomically, and academically. They respond well to project-based learning activities where they are able to be creative, take risks, receive ample feedback, and use 21 century skills over an extended amount of time. Some of the students have had a difficult time with writing and are reluctant to do so. This project will engage students in the writing process because it integrates science which they love and allows them to be creative.
