All of my students (within my 2 classes) are English learners and come from a very impoverished neighborhood of Dallas. Like any other urban school, we face many challenges, one of them is keeping up with the never ending technological revolution. We cannot teach our students in the same way we taught a few years ago. Change is necessary to motivate and engage students not only in the curriculum we are responsible for teaching, but in school in general. Despite the limitations and difficulties, my students are thirsty for knowledge, they love to get feedback, and I enjoy seeing their faces when they go "Now I get it !". Success is sweet, but it comes with lots of effort, a constant cycle of modeling-try out-check-feedback. My students are a great bunch, they are not afraid of working hard, and neither am I. However, we should work not only harder but also smarter, using technology to enhance their learning.
