Upon retiring in 2019, I generously gifted a collected treasure trove of learning games to bright-eyed, eager new teachers. I certainly don’t regret it because we all know that sharing is caring (and beginning teachers are broke)! As I re-entered the teaching field shortly after, I soon realized what an important teaching resource these games had been. My role is now working with older kids, academic strugglers who need a painless and entertaining way to build essential learning skills. Games in the teaching world provide accidental learning -- the sneaky kind that creeps up on students! The academic games I am requesting for my students are also a great alternative to computer programmed interventions. The lack of technology required to play these hands-on games make them special – they satisfy the struggle of balancing digital and real-life connections.
