Our classroom has a diverse set of learning styles and special needs! Students in the fifth grade a coming into a time in their lives where they crave independence and our classroom needs an organizational makeover to provide a safe and effective learning environment for our unique set of learning needs. We have a variety of special needs in our classroom that require the environment to be organized and not over stimulating. By revamping our organizational system to be cleaner and more functional, all of my students with an emphasis on my special needs students will be able to learn autonomy and accountability in the classroom and advocate for their learning by being able to access the tools they need to make content comprehensible to their diverse learning styles. Students can have a place to put their supplies for reading in labeled drawers and organized supplies bins and cabinet spaces for math manipulatives. Cabinet space can be sorted and reimagined for students to exert their independence to grab math manipulatives and tools when they are working. Having supplies that are easily found gives students the confidence to use tools to assist their learning while giving them a sense of independence and ownership of the classroom without having to ask for permission to go get something out of a cabinet. By having shelving organizers, my classroom cabinets and supplies areas can be safe for students to access them without fear of things falling on them or being hazardous!
