I teach a first grade dual language class and my students are eager to continue learning Spanish. We have a 50/50 model where half of our students are monolingual and the other half speak Spanish. In order for our program to be true dual language, my students need Spanish literature books made available to them. Many of my students do not have books in Spanish in their own homes therefore they do not have the home exposure needed to take their Spanish reading skills to another level. Many of them lack the cultural experiences that help build vocabulary and deep text comprehension in Spanish.
