I have a class of 21 first graders. They are all unique and wonderful. I have 4 students whom I am very concerned about because they are significantly below grade level. My goal is to make them love reading and close the gap between their level and the expected level. My class also has several students who are reading above grade level and need to be engaged and challenged. When my students are doing their Daily Five activities (read to self, read to someone, work on words, work on writing, and listen to reading) each day they are motivated, excited, and learning like crazy. They enjoy having choices in what they participate in, this leads to independence, which is our goal.
