I have a K-5 special education classroom. They receive their direct instruction in all subjects in my classroom. It is so important that they are exposed to grade appropriate reading materials and vocabulary so they can interact and participate verbally with their peers. They are energetic and love to learn. Our units of study include hands on activities, field trips for interaction outside the traditional classroom setting to bring meaning to the subject matter and exposure to how it applies for daily living skills. My students are mainstreamed with their grade and age appropriate peers for behavior modeling and socialization for a couple of periods a day.
