My students will use the different color pens to annotate (mark up) their reading passages. Studies have shown that using color helps students to distinguish between different pieces of information. As they read their weekly article students are tasked with identifying useful information, author style and pinpointing parts they are struggling with. Each task is done with a different color so they can easily go back to the reading passage and find and identify information. We think that really digging into the reading and taking time to realize how and why different articles are written will help to improve their reading.
