I am a bilingual/ESL teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. I have 58 ESL students in grades K-8. They are highly motivated and come to school every day ready to learn. The majority of my students are Latino. Most of them are in the bilingual/ESL program for 3 to 5 years. Therefore, I have the wonderful opportunity of working with them for multiple years and seeing them grow. Our school is relatively small. We have approximately 400 students. Our students come from various parts in the city because we are a good school. Our teachers work very hard to provide students with a high quality and rigorous education. Our parents are extremely involved and fund-raise all year long to fill the gaps in our budget. One of the most extraordinary things about our school is that we encourage our students to be kind to one another. Our hope is they will display kindness, at every opportunity they are able to do so.
