My students are very diverse in their academic and social backgrounds. A third of my students are on the free and reduced lunch program. There are 26 different languages in their homes, and often these students serve as translators for their parents. These students struggle for help with their homework when there is both a language and educational barrier at home. I have students that are very advanced (above grade level) and students that are unfortunately below grade level. These students have a hard time accessing the concepts being taught since their knowledge level is not where it is supposed to be. I want to help these students and not all schools have systems in place to address the individual needs because of logistical issues. My students want to be successful, and a lot of them will be. I always get caught up with the students who I know will struggle to be successful because of their own mental roadblocks. I want to help those students push past those obstacles.
