The majority of my fifth graders are reading at a third or fourth grade level. Many of the students are English Language Learners. My students are really excited to learn. Unfortunately, most of the support they receive is at school; parents are unable to help due to English not being their first language. Most of my parents speak Spanish. Students in our school are eager to learn and love to read the latest books. Unfortunately, they are unable to purchase these books for themselves. Our school library does not offer enough current books for the 1400 students in our school. There have been many times that I have purchased popular books for my classroom and allowed students to check them out, but unfortunately these books never make it back because my students do not return them.
