We are a small, rural school in the Pacific Northwest. Many students have parents and grandparents who work(ed) in the forests. These jobs are on the decline and this change is reflected in the socio-economic status of our students. Our students crave having access to technology as many of them feel secluded in our small town. They want to feel as if they are part of the world they see on television and social media. Few have traveled beyond the Pacific Northwest and some haven't traveled to Seattle or Portland. Many parents did not experience success in school and don't see it as a priority for their children or lack the skills to help their children understand the value of education. Engaging our students is a constant challenge.
